Ling
Ling are three species of large elongated fish in the Lotidae family. It is an ocean fish whose habitat is in the Atlantic region and can be found around Iceland, Faroe Islands, British Isles, the Norse coast, northwester Mediterranean and occasionally around Newfoundland in Canada.
The salted roe of the ling is considered a delicacy in Spain and is called huevas de maruca.

Ling is lives in the northern part of the North sea where they are catched in the deeper parts. He's called the brother of the cod because he seems a lot like it and has also the same taste. The flesh of the ling is something firmer. To fillet
- FIRMLY SHARP KNIFE (not to flexible)
- Make on both sides of the belly fins and gills an incision.
- Take of the head.
- Put your knife above the back fin and fillet the fish till the end of the tail.
- Cut the fillet till you'll see the middle belly bones.
- Put your knife to the end of the belly bones (half at the fish) and push your knife trough the fish and cut the fillet of to the tail.
Cut of the belly side, now you can see the belly bones.
- Cut into the small skin with the top of your knife to the end of the belly.
- Hold on the belly side and presses you knife in the incision and cut this side of.
- The other side is the same only you starts at the tail.

- Clean your beam with the back of your knife.
- Make a small incision in the fillet TO the skin.
- Push with your finger tops the skin firmly on the beam and makes at the same time short saw movements and cut the fillet down to the tail.

The ling has a long slender body and can reach length of 2.2 meters and a distinct beard on the lower jaw. Adults have grey bodies with a brown tint. It is generally a deep-running fish, spending much of its entire life at depths of 100 meters. Younger ling fish are often found at shallower depths. Common Ling can weigh up to 30 kilograms and can live up to 14 years. They are renowned for their fecundity, a single female is thought to have 60 million eggs. Spawning is from March to June and sometimes up to august and it takes place at depths of 180 meters. Eggs are about 1 millimeter in diameter.

Intro: The ling fish, commonly known as just ‘ling’ is actually from the cod family and it is an ugly brute! They can grow up to 2 meters in length so they aren’t small fish (being part of the cod family then they can’t be really) and they have this huge bulbous head with a massive mouth in and lots of small sharp teeth in, this is not a fish you want to get your hand near if you catch one! They look a bit prehistoric actually, and they tend to live at a depth of 100 meters or more, so maybe that has something to do with their appearance.This is definitely edible, and is supposed to taste just like normal cod, but the roe from the ling is actually a delicacy in Spain. Even though they look like powerful fish then apparently they don’t put up much of a fight when you hook them, it is still hard work to bring them up from that depth though!
