First thing you have to do is, to measure the length and breadth of the area where you are planning to make a garden. Then trace out a simple garden plan. Through garden planning, you can get a clear picture of the whole project, which includes your priorities, desires, expenses, etc. Below we have given the tips about how to plan & design your home garden yourself.

• Sketch your ideas on paper as it's easier to make changes with an eraser than shovel. So, settle down with a graph paper, eraser, ruler and pencil.
• Make sure that the graph paper should be of 11X17-inches to 18X24-inches.
• You can also include the obstacles, if any, that prevent you to design the garden in the list. These obstacles can be an unwanted pillar in the middle of the garden or the bushes of your neighbor.
• Pay attention to the points that are required for safety.
• Make sure that harmony with your neighbors should not be disrupted because of your gardening.
• Along with every point, also note down whether you would be able to do it yourself or you need a helping hand.
• Then you can make a list of the plants that you want to sow in your garden.
• Leave enough space near hedges, walls, and fences for plants, to provide them protection and shade.
• Plants should be sown on sufficient distance from one another, to let them grow properly.
• Provide wide berth to new shrubs and trees as when fully grown, they can take up a lot of space.
• Remember to leave open play areas for children.
• Add exercise areas for your pets where they won't trample plants.
