Cholesterol

Cholesterol [kuh-les-tuh-rohl] a principal sterol that primarily comes from animals and sometimes synthesized with small quantity from plants and fungi. A high level of cholesterol may cause heart disease.
- It is a lipid that does not contain fatty acid but possesses many of the chemical and physical properties of other lipids.
- A fatlike substance that is both produce in the body and in foods of animal origin. Some are absorbed in the diet but mostly synthesized in the liver.

Cholesterol can be bad or good. Bad cholesterol is what we call the LDL or Low Density Lipoprotein while good cholesterol is what we call the HDL or High Density Lipoprotein.
- LDL is the major cholesterol-carrying in the blood. It has high amount of fat than of protein. Fat is insoluble in water and in blood, thus it can clog arteries, thus causing atherosclerosis.
- HDL has high amount of protein than fat in human blood. It prevents from fat clogging in human arteries, thus reducing the cause of atherosclerosis.
