Today, the problem of environmental pollution has reached a serious and gigantic proportion so that the very existence of human society is being threatened. Environment is the lifeline of all the living beings; at the same time the living beings, including the human beings, create the environment. Thus, environment and the living world are mutually interdependent. Today the socio-economic development has reached at a point, where its destructive power is so enhanced that it is destroying the environment rapidly. Therefore, it is high time to find-out new ways and methods of development which will not destroy ecology of our green environment.

Environmental management is necessary which can address these problems. If we manage our environment properly, we can reduce pollution or even put a stop to it. We need to use our resources in such a way as not to produce any environmental hazard.

Environmental Management also means utilizing nature in a proper way. We have to use our resources in such a way as not to produce dirt and filth. Our development needs to be sustainable and the ecological cycle should go on unhindered. In this context the process of policy making is of vital importance. This includes adoption of policies in accordance with the situation, setting up priorities, their application and their proper direction and regulation.

Trees and forests are cut down on a large scale. This leads to harmful consequences for soil, land, weather and atmosphere, etc. We have to devise such ways and means in which we do not have to cut down trees and forests. At the same time we may continue with our social and economic development. This is a vital point in environmental management. We have also to adopt the policy of afforestation to increase the forest area as a part of our development.

Adoption and application of far-sighted policies, undertaking wise steps help evolve the green environment immensely. Therefore proper management of environment at all levels is very essential.

[edit] How to Overcome the Crisis of Green Environment and Ecology:

The modern development has reached at a point where our green environment and ecology are in danger. If we continued with our old methods of development, consequences for our environment will be quite disastrous. The whole human race, the living world and the planet earth itself will be destroyed. We may reach at a point from where it is impossible to return.

We have to manage our environment in such a way that the resources are used properly and sensibly. We need to manage our environment in such a way that we should be able to establish proper co-ordination and balance between our needs and the processes of environment. The aim of this environmental management is to give a new direction to our economic needs and values, at the same time to maintain a clean environment.

Environmental management needs to demarcate such limits for development and environment which are advantageous for both of them. For example if our development or use of certain elements lead to the growth of ozone hole or increase the poisonous gases in the atmosphere or lead to global warming, then just stop using such materials or alternatively research to find new paths of development.
